Popcorn... a life story

By clicking on the tittle above you can link to a story I read today in the Houston Chronicle. At first I had mixed feelings about what I felt towards the content of this story, Popcorn's life journey and his sudden end. I wanted to feel angry, I felt sad, and I felt happy. It was Popcorn who displayed a sense of pride. This story should not teach us that moonshine is illegal and has been since the beginning of time but that it is OK to die for something we strongly believe in. He now lies a man whom only knew one thing in his life, right or wrong it was what had brought many to know him by. It was what helped support his family, allowed people to "have a good time", and what taught many about life in general.

This story leads me to believe that over time, as we begin to see the transformation of our country to something many of us will never understand........ we will begin to see more loss of individual identity. Loss of ourselves, loss of whom we are.
Those are not words of a liberal but words of a conservative concerned by the future of this great nation. They call it socialism but with our governments majority control over much of the financial system to start, and on to healthcare next, it begins to become more like communism.

I had posted a tweet earlier last week to a site that Glenn Beck has put together that attempts to restore the values and morals of the everyday American called The 912 Project. I believe I would take it one step further and make it say to the attempt to restore the morals and values of the everyday person. The new generations at hand have been led to believe that family is not important, that conversation at the dinner table are wrong, and that independence should be our strongest moral character. I know I have been able to be a part of many great family cookout, dinners, conversations, and reunions. I know one of the last I attended was visited by more traveling from out of town than those that actually live in the town it was being held in.........I encourage each of you to take a look at The 912 Project. Evaluate where you fall and see what small changes you can make to better yourself, influence the lives around you, and plant a single stake of change for the future, That is the change we need. Money will only buy us so much, taxes will only hurt us that much more, Character change will be what makes the ultimate difference.

I hope to make this a summer of travel to see more family, spend more time just going back to the basics of spending quality time with one another. I hope to meet old friends, maybe even catch up with a classmate or two (some place other than Facebook thank you!) I challenge you to do just the same. Take care and may God bless each of you and your families.
